Joy: My Remus and I have been nominated for awards!

« previous entry | next entry »
Dec. 1st, 2010 | 07:57 pm

My story Remus Lupin and the Revolt of the Creatures has been nominated in the “Best Multi Chapter” category at The Deathly Hallows Awards. I’ve also been nominated for the “Kindest Author” category!

These awards are tallied by public voting: the winner in each category is the fic with the most votes submitted before December 30th. Link to the awards: http://deathlyhallowsawards.blogspot.com

Thank you so much, Kindest Reader(s) for the nominations. You don’t... or perhaps you do know how much this means to me! Thank you, Little Miss Mionie and HogwartsHussy, for organising the awards.

Many congratulations on your well deserved nominations. &hearts

One of the great things about fic nominations is that they jog the memory of people like me who still have your epic on our "to read" list. (or actually, in my case, it's on my "to finish reading" list.)

I've never heard of the Kindest Author award, but it makes sense to me that you've been nominated. It's always a pleasure to have a comment exchange with you. All writers say that they appreciate any and all comments, but your thoughtful responses truly make me feel as if my comments are heard and appreciated. One of the joys of fandom and LJ is the interaction between writer and reader, and you exemplify that relationship -- you really do.

And, for those of us who need memory jogs; please, please, please write a post when voting finally opens.

Thank you so much. It’s lovely to see you again! My Remus novel is, indeed, an extensive epic, and I doubt many people have finished reading it, while I maintain it keeps getting only better towards the end, and I can’t help hoping to hear what people think of the later developments in the story.

Oh, my heart is warmed, in turn, by your pleasure in our comment exchanges and your appreciation for my responses to feedback! As I’ve possibly told you, interaction between readers and writers has made me prefer (both writing and reading) fanfiction to fiction (to be) sold to publishes and printed. Fanfiction has also helped me understand better how literature (and all art) is communication and finalised only when received. It means a world to me to truly share what I’ve written: to sometimes exchange thoughts about it, and also just to know that it’s out there, and that – thanks to a nomination like this, too – there’s still a chance that readers find (or are reminded of) it, and perhaps find it enjoyable, touching or thought-provoking.

As far as I’ve understood correctly, voting will open on the 10th of December. Thanks to you – and shimotsuki – I won’t feel it’s completely shameless to make another post then.

Oh, congratulations! That's wonderful news -- both for your wonderful novel and for the way you so thoughtfully interact with your readers!

I hadn't heard of this award comm before, but I'll second the request to please let us know when the voting starts. :)

Thank you – also on my novel’s behalf! I’m thrilled you call it wonderful even though you’ve hardly read the better half of it!

Interacting with my readers has always been an essential part of my fandom life, and the Kindest Author nomination, too, means a lot to me. Besides, the other nomination as such is actually enough to make me finally feel that both I as a writer and my novel have been acknowledged. Of course, I won’t mind receiving some votes, too, so thank you again! I think the voting will start on the 10th of December.

What lovely news, you must be thrilled! Especially the 'Kindest Author' nomination, which is such a compliment to how you must respond to your readers. I know about that myself from pulped_fictions. :)

Yes, the “Kindest Author” nomination warms my heart, while it’s also a complete surprise. It is true that I’ve always responded to all feedback in detail, expressing my sincere joy and my appreciation of the individual way any reader reacts to my writing. I’ve also found it natural to ask the readers I haven’t met before whether they do fanworks and what they’d most like to get reviewed. However, my interaction in the fandom has got less, so that I can hardly call myself “kindest reader”, even though I still comment on (and now actually also rec on my journal) any piece of fanfic I finish reading.

Above all, I’m thrilled the novel I spent seven years on writing has been acknowledged by an award nomination.

And oh, I was thrilled when I got the chance to discuss my (and some of other people’s) tiny non-fanfic works in the Pulpympics! Thank you!

Thank you, Kelly! I’ve never been involved in any awards before. There’s a lovely, humorous tone in the choice and descriptions of the categories here. While the nominations alone are definitely enough to make me finally feel accomplished and appreciated at The End I’ve mentioned to you before, you know that I’ve always taken my fanfic project so seriously that this is a lot better than simple fun for me!

Ha! You wouldn't know how happy I am to hear that! Even if you don't win, this is already a success, I think. Your story, though an amazingly beautiful one, is not a typical, easy and popular read for reasons we have discussed many times (like lack of sex, unfamiliar, new settings and new characters, the length). I'm thrilled for you, thrilled about the well-deserved recognition, and hope that this nomination will gain you new readers, too. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed!

Thank you, my amazing beta! I’m happy to share this joy with you. And I agree with you. This nomination is more than I dreamed of at the time when I told you that – after I had got some praise for the end and the whole of the novel – one serious rec would make me fully satisfied with the reception of my work. Now there is also a rec by kellychambliss on her journal, here. I’ll stay happy when I know that the story and also mentions of it are out there, so that it’ll remain possible for knew readers to find it – even in case I never hear from anyone. And I don’t regret writing exactly this story (with those elements you list). Thank you again for all your support!
